A CALL TO REMEMBRANCE 2 1 12
I had such a passionate, heart filled devotional experience this morning in prayer. It didn’t start that way but I thank God it ended this way. After taking my complaints and stressors to the Lord (we all need a chance to vent sometimes) I read the Book of Psalms 77 out loud while still in prayer. During the second reading my heart began to stir as I began to feel and relate to the words of King David. The verses that made my heart move were
10And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
11I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
12I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings (kjv).
In reading these words of the King I began to remember the years of the right hand of the Lord in my own life. In particular the days of my youth when He undeniable, unequivocal, indisputably delivered my life(2 year old son at the time and 12 year old sister) from death. I began to recall the thoughts, feelings, words and actions on that fateful night and how it would’ve turned out totally different if the Lord hadn’t showed His right hand of mercy, grace and deliverance for my family. Calling this wonder to mind I couldn’t help but cry, lift my voice in adoration to the Most High then fall to my knees in humility and gratitude. What I love about the words of the King is that he was so honest as to question God in his mental swaying and emotional doubts but He came to the conclusion He would CALL TO REMEMBRANCE the wonders of God of old. The King refused to rely on his current mental, emotional and situational state to dictate the validly and truth of God’s existence but instead let the prior acts and testimonies of God prove His existence and presence in his life. Sometimes, like the king, we will question God, wonder if He is near or even exists but do like King David did then and like I did this morning: Call to remembrance God’s acts and wonders in your own life and your doubts, questions and uncertainties will become convictions declarations and proclamations such as the king’s in verse 14.
14Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
